DR. MUHAMMAD KADWA

MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL

Dr Muhammad Kadwa is an accomplished agricultural economist with a wealth of experience in the sugarcane industry, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement fields. His expertise in economic modeling, industry calculations, and market regulation. He has a keen interest in quantitative research, agricultural and industrial value chains.

Muhammad is currently the Industry Affairs Manager at the South African Cane Growers Association. Dr Kadwa is also the President of the South African Sugar Technologists’ Association (SASTA) since 2022 and a member of the Council of the International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists (ISSCT). In 2012, Muhammad started as an Agricultural Economic Advisor at the KwaZulu-Natal provincial Department of Agriculture before joining SA Canegrowers as an Area Manager for the Umzimkulu region in 2015. He completed a BSc. Agriculture Degree in Agricultural Economics and his Ph.D. focused on Bioresource Systems, both conducted through the University of KwaZulu-Natal, in South Africa.

Currently, Dr Kadwa is also a member of the SADC Technical Committee of Sugar, the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Trade Forum, AgriSA’s Commodity Chamber and the Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa. At a personal level, Muhammad is a humanitarian at heart, and has served as a Volunteer Coordinator for Africa Muslims Agency since 2022.
