VINEYARD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The Vineyard Development Project started in 2007 and it is expected to be completed in 2023. It is DAFF and Northern Cape Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (NCDARD). A total of six projects sites are already functioning, with a total of 350 hectares having been established.

The project aims to establish grape production (raisins, wine and table grapes) along the Orange River in the Northern Cape to benefit black farmers at Kai Gariep Local Municipality, Siyanda District, Northern Cape Province. The Scheme is aimed at an establishment of 500 ha of wine, raisins and table grapes in the Northern Cape.

The purpose is to integrate black farmers into the grape value chain assisted through provision of primary production and processing and marketing infrastructure such as irrigation equipment, trellising equipment’s for vineyards, mechanisation, pack houses, packaging equipment and drying facilities.

The Vineyard development Scheme comprises of thirteen vineyard projects i.e. Sanddraai arbeidsgenot, Realeboga ,Blocuso trust, Riemvasmaak, Valley junction wine project, Eiland wine project , Eksteenskuil grape project, Silver moon , Lemoendraai , Pella , Coboop, Vaalhoek women, Nomalangha.
