South Africa has a total land surface of 122 million hectares, of which 97 million hectares are classified as agricultural land (DALRRD, 2023). According to the latest abstract of agricultural statistics (DoA, 2025), approximately 9.5 million hectares is under field crops, while about 3.9 million hectares is under horticulture production.
